Lama Marut introduces the first of the three paths: renunciation. Rather than simply “giving things up”, renunciation means changing our attitude and letting go of suffering itself. Looking squarely at saṃsāra (“We’re either in the middle of a disaster or we’re between them”), he offers the contentment mantra: “Om, I have enough, Ah Hum.” The class explores leisure and fortune, death-awareness meditation, the eight worldly thoughts, the four laws of karma, and the different kinds of suffering. A closing meditation invites us to put our own worst problem into perspective.
