The Lama Marut Archive is a digital library of the recorded teachings of Lama Marut (Brian Kelley Smith, 1953–2019). Its purpose is to preserve this material and make it freely available to his students and to anyone who may find it useful.
The archive brings together talks, courses and Lama Marut’s Sanskrit-to-English translations, recorded and developed over many years. The collection is being gathered, digitised, restored and catalogued as an ongoing work of preservation, with new teachings added regularly.
The teachings in this archive are freely accessible. The aim is to make Lama Marut's work available to anyone who wishes to study it, regardless of their financial circumstances. Donations are welcome but are not required to access the teachings.
While the archive is free to use, preserving and maintaining it involves ongoing work and costs. Donations are welcome but are entirely optional. You can contribute with a monthly or one-time donation.
Monthly donations can be cancelled at any time.
The archive is built and maintained by one person. Donations support the work involved in finding and restoring recordings, cataloguing and publishing materials, developing and maintaining the website and content management system, and covering the costs of the domain, web and audio hosting, digital storage and other running expenses.
Donations are held in a bank account used only for the archive. Each July, after the end of the Australian financial year, a summary of the archive's income and expenditure will be published to show how funds are used.
Once operating costs and a reserve for future expenses have been accounted for, the archive intends to donate 10% of its annual surplus (or up to AUD $1,000 per year) to The Maitri Project, supporting Buddhist nuns and Geshemas (women Geshes) in support of the Tibetan tradition of study and practice.

The archive’s start-up costs were covered by Lama Marut’s retreat funds, which his Singapore students kindly passed on to the project. These funds paid for the website platform, hosting, domain names, the audio delivery system and the work of building the site.
