Nāgārjuna Chapters 26 and 15

Oasis Holistic, Singapore · May 13–14, 2012 · Two classes

Two afternoons on two chapters of Nāgārjuna’s Root Verses on the Middle Way in Singapore, May 2012

An advanced workshop.

In May 2012, between his evening teachings on the Steps on the Path (Lam Rim), Lama Marut gave two afternoon classes in Singapore on Ārya Nāgārjuna’s Root Verses on the Middle Way. What he calls “one of the most profound and deep of the philosophical texts of world religions.”

Each class works through his translation (translated over a few years with his Sanskrit students in Tucson, Arizona) and commentary on one chapter:

  • Chapter 26 which he has titled 'The Chain of Pain' on the twelve links of dependent origination: how we create suffering, how we can break the chain and the emptiness of the links.
  • Chapter 15 'A deep dive into emptiness' which is an analysis of self-nature.

As Lama Marut put it, the aim is to “loosen one of the threads of the sweater of ignorance” ... and, if you want more wisdom, be nicer!

This course was organised by the Singapore dharma group and hosted at Erika Khoo's yoga studio, Oasis Holistic.

Both classes are now available to listen to and download, each with its reading.
