Renunciation, Refuge and Responsibility – Los Angeles, Sep 2011

“Renunciation doesn’t necessarily mean quitting your job, donating everything you own and living off the grid. But it does mean knowing what to give up and what to take up.”

An evening public talk at the Mahasukha Center in Los Angeles on three aspects of any spiritual life – and, as Lama Marut puts it, “a spiritual life and a sane life are the same life.”

- Renunciation means giving up the idea that the next consumer good, relationship or entertainment will finally make us happy, and the idea that our happiness is someone else’s job.
- Refuge means finding a teacher who knows the way home, a path that works, and a community of people who are trying.
- Responsibility means taking charge of our own happiness and unhappiness, and living up to the privileges we have.

Note: The talk is followed by a QnA - the audience questions are hard to hear.
